Home Security Insurance Discounts: Rates by Insurer
Most United States insurers discount 5 to 15% of the premium for a professionally monitored security system, with marketing pages claiming up to 20%, and basic unmonitored systems earning 2 to 5%. The discount needs central-station monitoring and a certificate of installation, and carriers cap combined discounts at roughly 30 to 40% of the base premium. This guide gives the typical range, the published figures by insurer, what qualifies, the 3 claim steps, and the break-even.
The Typical Discount
The realistic range is 5 to 15% for a professionally monitored system; Policygenius found most insurers give only 2 to 5% for a basic system, and the 20% headlines come from security companies' own blogs, so treat the top end as a best case.

What Qualifies
4 things qualify: 24/7 central-station monitoring (self-monitoring earns little or nothing), a certificate of installation from the alarm company, fire or smoke monitoring for the second credit, and, with some carriers, water sensors and smart locks for device credits.
How to Claim
The 3 steps: get the certificate of installation from the alarm company (Vivint customers download it from the Account Center), send it to your agent with the policy number, and confirm the discount at the next renewal and after any equipment additions.
The Vivint insurance discount guide covers the Vivint certificate.
Break-Even
On a $1,800 premium a 10% discount saves $180 a year, which covers 7 months of monitoring at $24.99; at 15% it covers 11 months. The home security value guide adds the burglary data to the calculation.
