How-to guide
How to Change Your Vivint Passcode, PIN and User Codes
Vivint uses 3 different codes: a 4-digit panel PIN that disarms the system, a verbal passcode that proves who you are to the monitoring centre, and the app login password. The panel PIN changes at the Smart Hub in 7 taps; user codes change in the app under Users; the verbal passcode is changed through Vivint customer care. This guide explains the 3 codes, the steps for each, and the 4 moments when you should change them.

The 3 Codes Explained
Each code does a different job, and mixing them up is a common cause of dispatched false alarms.
| Code | What it does | Where it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Panel PIN (4 digits) | Disarms the system and unlocks connected locks; the master PIN also opens the panel menu | At the Smart Hub, or in the app |
| Verbal passcode | Letters, numbers, or a phrase the agent asks for during an alarm or a support call; cancels a false alarm | Through Vivint customer care |
| App login password | Signs in to the Vivint app and Account Center | In the app under Profile, Account Security |

Change the Panel PIN
Change the panel PIN at the Smart Hub in 7 steps.
At the panel:
- Tap the 3 dots in the corner to open the menu.
- Select Users and enter your current PIN.
- Select Primary Admin User.
- Select PIN.
- Enter the new PIN and tap Save.
- Enter it again and tap Save.
- Check the confirmation; the new code shows on the PIN line.
Change the Verbal Passcode
The verbal passcode is set on your agreement at installation and changed through Vivint customer care by chat or phone; only the primary passcode can make account changes, while secondary passcodes for other household members can be added or removed at any time.
Answering the agent with the right passcode during an accidental alarm stops the dispatch, which is the cheapest way to avoid a false-alarm fine. The false alarm fee guide lists the other 6 steps.
Manage User Codes
Give every person their own code in the app: open the menu, tap Users, choose the person, open PIN codes, and enter your own password to edit; your own PIN is under your profile in Password and PINs.
Separate codes put a name on every arming and every unlock in the app log. A Vivint smart lock holds up to 30 codes; the smart lock page covers lock-only codes.
4 Times to Change Your Codes
Change codes at these 4 moments.
When:
- The day you move into a home with an existing Vivint system.
- When a cleaner, contractor, or dog walker stops working for you; delete their user code.
- When a roommate or partner moves out.
- When someone may have watched you type the PIN.
