Vivint Installation Checklist: 9 Things to Prepare

Preparing 9 things before Vivint installation keeps the 2-to-4-hour visit on schedule: Wi-Fi password, a list of entry points, access to doorbell wiring and the electrical panel, a hub location, pet details, emergency contacts, a verbal passcode, HOA or landlord permission for exterior devices, and an adult present for the whole visit. This guide explains each item, the 3 decisions the technician will ask you to make, and the 4 things to check before the technician leaves.

What Should You Prepare Before Vivint Installation?

Prepare the 9 items listed below before the Vivint technician arrives.

The 9-item checklist:

  1. Wi-Fi network name and password (cameras and app setup).
  2. A list of every door and ground-floor window to be sensored.
  3. Clear access to the existing doorbell wiring and transformer (16 to 24 VAC) if a Doorbell Camera Pro is ordered.
  4. A chosen Smart Hub location near the main entry with a power outlet.
  5. Pet weights for motion-sensor pet-immunity settings (33, 55, or up to 80 pounds).
  6. Names and phone numbers of 2 or 3 emergency contacts.
  7. A verbal passcode for the monitoring centre.
  8. Written HOA or landlord permission for exterior cameras and locks where required.
  9. An adult available for the full visit to approve placement and receive training.

What Decisions Will the Technician Ask You to Make?

The technician asks you to make 3 decisions during the walkthrough: final placement of each camera and sensor, entry and exit delay lengths, and which app users and automations to set up before training.

What Should You Check Before the Technician Leaves?

Check 4 things before the technician leaves: every sensor shows open and closed in the app, each camera streams and records a clip, the monitoring centre has confirmed a test signal, and you can arm, disarm, and cancel a false alarm with the passcode.

What Happens in the First Week After Installation?

In the first week after installation, 3 things happen: the 3-day rescission window closes (counted from the signing date), the first monitoring payment is billed, and the city alarm permit should be filed where required, which the Vivint service areas pages note by state.
