Vivint Smoke, CO and Water Sensors: Prices and Monitoring
Vivint sells 3 life-safety sensors: a photoelectric smoke detector and an electrochemical carbon monoxide detector at $100 each (also a combined unit), and a water sensor with temperature monitoring at $50; all report to the monitoring centre around the clock whether the system is armed or not, and fire and CO alarms dispatch the fire department. How Monitored Fire Alerts Work
When a Vivint smoke or CO detector alarms, the hub sounds its siren, the detector sounds its own 85 dB siren, and the monitoring centre dispatches the fire department after a verification call, armed or not; a standard $20 detector only sounds locally. Vivint installs its detectors alongside, not instead of, the home's code-required alarms.
Water Leak Detection
The water sensor alerts the app when a quarter inch of water reaches its probe and when the temperature leaves a range you set, which catches a frozen pipe before it bursts; place one by the water heater, washing machine, under sinks, and near the sump pump.
Insurance Credits
Monitored fire detection is the second insurance credit after burglary, worth an extra few percent with most carriers, and some insurers add a water-detection credit; the insurance discount guide explains the certificate.
