When You Need One
You need a repeater in 3 situations: sensors on a detached garage, barn, or workshop; a large home where sensors at the far end lose supervision; and buildings with brick, stone, or metal that weakens the signal. Vivint sensors reach about 300 to 350 feet in open air, so most homes do not need one.
Where to Place It
Mount the repeater on a wall in portrait orientation, near an unswitched outlet, roughly halfway between the Smart Hub and the sensors that are not communicating reliably; install only one per system.
Setup
The repeater shows a solid green light when it has power and a blinking red light when it is passing signals; it keeps working on its backup battery in a power cut, and Vivint support finishes the setup by programming it to your system.
