Selling a House With Vivint: Transfer, Move or Cancel
When you sell a home with Vivint installed you have 3 options: transfer the service to the buyer, which SafeWise reports costs $99 and is waived if the buyer signs a new agreement; move the system to your next home; or have it removed for $149 and settle your agreement. Vivint asks for at least 2 weeks' notice. This guide tables the options, gives the transfer steps, explains what the buyer signs, and names the cheapest route for 4 cases.

The 3 Options
The table compares the 3 options on cost and on what happens to your agreement.
| Option | Cost | Your agreement |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer to the buyer | $99 transfer fee, waived if the buyer signs a new agreement | Ends once the transfer is complete |
| Move the system to your new home | $149 removal (or remove it yourself) plus reinstallation | Continues at the new address |
| Remove it and leave | $149 professional removal | You still owe the remaining service and any financing balance |

How a Transfer Works
A transfer takes 4 steps: call Vivint's moves team at least 2 weeks before closing, tell the buyer and their agent that the system can stay active, have the buyer pass Vivint's qualification and sign, and keep paying until Vivint confirms the transfer.
Vivint can refuse a transfer if the buyer does not qualify, and a transfer is not possible while equipment is still financed, so pay off the financing balance first. The moves team is at 800-216-5232, option 3, then option 2.
What the Buyer Signs
The buyer either takes over your service agreement or, more often, signs a new Vivint agreement in their own name; a new agreement waives the transfer fee and may earn you a referral credit if the buyer activates service.
If you plan to keep the system yourself, the moving with Vivint guide covers the move fees and the military waiver.
Cheapest Route by Case
The cheapest route depends on 4 things: whether the buyer wants the system, whether you want it at your next home, how much of your term is left, and whether equipment is still financed.
| Your situation | Cheapest route |
|---|---|
| Buyer wants the system; equipment paid off | Transfer; the fee is waived if the buyer signs a new agreement |
| You want the system at your next home | Move it; remove it yourself to skip the $149 removal fee |
| Nobody wants it; little term left | Leave it in place and pay out the remaining months |
| Equipment still financed | Pay off the Fortiva balance, then transfer or move |
